Day 5

As one of the people on this trip that is traveling to Israel for the first time, it is challenging to capture all of the astonishing sights we saw today, our first full day in Jerusalem! After spending Shabbat morning find peace and joy in our own activities, some of us took a walk through Mishkenot Sha’ananim, the first Jewish neighborhood built outside the old city by Montefiore. He also built this windmill so the Jews would have their own way to mill grain. Later in the day, our group joined together for an extensive walk through the Old City. Through narrow walkways, on rooftops and through underground markets, we made our way through the different Quarters of the city, ending at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. So much to see! After Havdalah on the balcony of our hotel, we had a chance to get back into the city for dinner, but first, a few of us went to the protest for the hostages, marking Day 176 since October 7. Another full day tomorrow!
